On June 28th, 2015 at Phoenix Theatre. Former Miss Gay America 2000 Catia Lee Love announced that I won Miss Gay Arizona America! At first I genuinely did not believe it, and it was not until I looked into my drag mother Mya Mckenzie's eyes and heard "Baby you did it." I was in utter shock and disbelief, I had strived for this title since the beginning of my performance career when I first saw and met Miss Gay Arizona America TC Taylor. I told myself, "Someday I am gonna be that, and I am gonna go to nationals" of course like all great accomplishments, it takes a lot of time to get there. I competed for MGAA for 3 years, before deciding to take a break and lose weight, grow up and let the community know who I was. I felt I needed to watch and see and understand what it meant to be a true "Symbol of Excellence" and in 2015, I was ready. After months of planning, rehearsing and turning over every stone I competed and won Miss Gay Phoenix and eventually achieved my dream I had long since thought of Miss Gay Arizona America. However, as the saying goes "It takes a village to raise a child" nothing could more true than my journey here.
I first and foremost need to thank Mya and Lezbien Mckenzie, Whom without these two in my corner, Nevaeh Mckenzie would probably not have existed. You two are my heart and part of the reason why I am here today, and without your guidance, tough love, kindness and honesty, I don't know where I'd be.
To my "Flowers" and choreographer Jenzi Russel, We've danced on many of stages before, competed a plethora of times created such lasting memories, I am so fortunate and blessed to have the best dancers AZ has! you are all my flowers and I cherish each and everyone of you! and Jenzi! I can not thank you enough for all your hard work, commitment and push. When I told myself and you "I cant" you always said "Girl, you better Try!" and we got it! We are off to nationals!!!
To my Dresser(s) and seamstress's Guera and Adrianna, I can not thank you two enough for all your help these past few years and helping that night! You both truly worked your butts off for me and you have my utmost gratitude!
To my Promoters Todd Wyckoff and Gabriel Medellin, I knew when I came back to the America system, there was not a group or Prelim I wanted to work more with than you two. You allowed me to see my vision and from day one said "whatever you need Miss Phoenix" and now we are off to nationals!
To my Miss Gay Arizona America 2015 Sisters! I am so honored that we all got to not only share the stage together, but create memories on our journey to Miss Gay Arizona America. You are all such exceptional entertainers but more exceptional human beings, and let my story and journey be living proof that no dream is impossible. Your work as Prelim titleholders is just as important as any crown or title that is out there, don't forget that, your year is not over!
To my 1st alternate Savannah, You and I are on this journey together, I am so honored to call you not only my MGAA sister, but my family! we are gonna have one heck of a year, and I cant wait be everywhere with you.
Finally, Daniel Eckstrom, You above everyone has known about this journey, you have guided me and become a beacon of hope to not only "stick with my guns" but more so face the challenges, adversity, joys, stress, laughter and doubts and there is not a thing I can do to repay, but i'm gonna spend the year trying to find out how. I am so honored to (FINALLY) be one of "Daniels Girls" and I promise to do my best this year to make you proud, not only at nationals, but all year round!
To the MGAA Symbol of Excellences before me, I cant not even begin to tell you how honored and humbled I am to not only share the reign of this elite and prestigious group of amazing entertainers. But how amazing it makes me feel that I have shared the stage, dressing room, and memories with most of you. Your stories and words of wisdom have truly shaped this "Little One" into being the 30th Miss Gay Arizona America. I want you to all to know that with every performance; before, during and after my reign, I take a piece of each you with me every time I hit that stage. I am truly the fruit of all your work, your words and your legacy!
To our Reigning Symbol of Excellence, Blair Williams, with each and every conversation we have had, you have made this journey to MGAA such a joy! You words of wisdom and advice have done more than you know and I hope to one day share the sisterhood that is Miss Gay America! (I'll see you in October)
It has been such a journey all ready with performances, event invites, compliments, words of wisdom. I truly still can't believe that this has happened! But I wish to thank Mike Weidmann, John King and the staff ("My Boys") at Charlie's Phoenix and Mike Fornelli at BS WEST for giving me a home each and every week, you have offered me so much these past 5 years and took a chance on me and I can't thank you enough! Janee Starr and the staff at IBT's for welcoming me to Tucson with such a warm reception, I can't wait to be back! To Barbra Seville and the staff at the Rock for all their support and hospitality each and every time I am there. The Owners and Staff at Roscoe's for stepping up and always offering help! I truly enjoy myself every time I am there!
Anthony Van Dao for his INCREDIBLE photos, I have tear'd up more these past few weeks looking at those photos than I can remember, you have made me look and feel gorgeous! You are truly gifted at what you do and I can not wait to work with you more and more! Also to Scotty Kirby for capturing me the first go round and allowing me to "take over" the photo shoot and bringing out my inner Britney! I am so proud of all the work you've done and I know you are off to do great things babe!
To all of Team "Fitfish" I can't even begin to thank you enough! Your support with every show, performance, T-Shirt purchase has been so humbling! I can't wait to take you all with me to America and I promise to do AZ proud!
Finally I wish to stress that all year long, I have decided that with every "Crown Song" performance, I am donating my tips to the Phoenix Children's Hospital and 1n10. Two very big organizations that mean the absolute world to me and are dear to my heart, so if you see me out and about, please do what you can to donate. As I stated in my on stage question "To me the most important job of ANY Miss Gay Arizona America, is to give back to their community, without any of you, there would be no 'us'."
All My Love,
Miss Gay Arizona America 2015
